Chronic Disease…. Will you Die Before Your Time?

Chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes—are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Chronic diseases account for 70% of all deaths in the U.S., which is 1.7 million each year.

Think about this—7 out of every 10 deaths!!!!!

These diseases also cause major limitations in daily living for almost 1 out of 10 Americans or about 25 million people. Although chronic diseases are among the most common and costly health problems, they are also among the most preventable. Adopting healthy behaviors such as eating nutritious foods, being physically active, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco use can prevent or control the devastating effects of these diseases.

If everyone exercised regularly, ate a balanced diet and didn’t smoke and drank alcohol in moderation we could virtually wipe out most of these deaths resulting from chronic disease!

Somehow we feel bullet proof or we just don’t give a damn or don’t until we experience a stroke, heart attack or get diabetes. I still, for the life of me, can’t figure out our ignorance and “blind eye” attitude about our health and our everyday practices that will eventually lead us to bad health and a miserable life. Just what don’t you get people??? This is what will happen to each one of you if you live a sedentary lifestyle and eat like crap—tons of sugar, salt, and saturated fat.

Tim Russert, national TV journalist dropped dead of cardiovascular disease a few weeks ago. He was 58 and had no prior history of bad health. That is the exact way it happens….you just drop dead, JUST LIKE THAT! Chances are you won’t even get a warning. You will be here one day and gone the next. This article is meant to scare you! To make you sit up and realize the path you’re headed down.

If you ever decide to take responsibility for your health and take action, go to amazon.com and get my book:

                            TOTAL HEALTH FOR LIFE

                                   MIND AND BODY

THE BABY BOOMER’S BIBLE OF HEALTH

Following this program will lessen the risk of a host of ills, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, some types of cancer, and cardiovascular problems. It will also lower bad cholesterol, raise good cholesterol, and boost your metabolism. Along with these physical benefits, an improvement in self-image, self-esteem, and confidence will accrue.

Most of your life centers around the relationships you have with your loved ones, family, friends, and associates. If you plan on being around to enjoy these relationships, you need a good relationship with yourself, your mind, heart and body.

Don’t you have the desire to live the best quality of life possible? If you don’t then you are cheating yourself. Make TODAY the day you make the commitment to finally take action.

Please have your friends sign up for my FREE bi-weekly newsletter at www.totalhealth4life.net to keep up on current health issues and how to stay on track with the many changes in our society that effect your health in very important ways.

If Vitaminwater were accurately named, it would actually be called Sugarwater. Its first two ingredients are, not surprisingly, sugar and water (the sugar coming in the form of crystalline fructose, a processed sweetener that has been linked to health problems) (http://www.naturalnews.com/029371_f…).

In addition to the sugar and water, Vitaminwater contains a smattering of synthetic vitamin chemicals that any informed health consumer probably wouldn’t want to ingest. So in reality, Vitaminwater is really sugar water with the addition of synthetic chemicals that happen to be called “vitamins” (but which are not the natural, plant-based nutrients your body would greatly prefer).

So what we have now with Vitaminwater is a beverage that’s positioned and marketed as a health-enhancing beverage, yet its own corporate lawyers dismiss any notion that the beverage is “healthy.” How, then, can Coca Cola get away with advertising Vitaminwater as a healthy beverage?

Simple: Because corporations use advertisements to lie to consumers. And virtually no one in the history of corporate advertising has mastered the art of deception better than Coca-Cola — a company whose products have contributed to untold numbers of DIABETES victims while being positioned as cool, hip drinks that make you feel energized or inspired.

RICO’S COMMENTS:

I don’t think that role models like Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and others would be on ads for this crap if they were really informed on the true state of health of this sugar water. But as you see, money changes everything. It lets athletes get paid large amounts to endorse unhealthy products that we assume MUST be good for us if THEY are consuming them. Hey guys, if you are going to accept the responsibility of being a role model then DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Investigate the products you endorse before influencing a generation into poor health.

America is already on the verge of drowning in sick-care bankruptcy, but the situation is about to get even worse. According to a new study released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, three-fourths of Americans will be obese or overweight by 2020. That puts America in first place for the world competition to see which nation can create the most obese population.

We’re number one!

Seriously, according to the research, America is No. 1 on the world obesity rankings, meaning a higher percentage of the U.S. population is obese than in any other country in the world.

Not surprisingly, why this is happening brings up all sorts of different explanations ranging from entirely valid to completely bizarre. But the simple truth of the situation is that Americans are fat because of these three simple reasons:

Reason #1) We don’t get much exercise.
Reason #2) We eat too much food.
Reason #3) The food we eat is mostly processed dead food of marginal nutritional value.

These three reasons largely explain whyAmerica has become the fattest nation in the world.

RICO’S COMMENTS:

We spend most of our time trying to make money without any regards to our health. If Americans made their health a priority and got nutritional advice from non-biased organizations who don’t benefit from slanting information to make money, we wouldn’t be in this crisis. Big business and Big Pharma are basically killing us for profit with false and misleading advertising of their products. These companies control our government with powerful lobbyists. It’s gotten out of hand to the point that our country’s health is in a severe crisis and these companies just make it worse. They peddle fast food, soda, drugs which cause more harm than good and keep us unhealthy. There is a pill for EVERYTHING now.

We as a country are becoming sedentary slouches, sitting in front of computers and TV screens all day, eating junk food in massive proportions. Parents are largely to blame for not being good role models and teaching their children a solid foundation of exercise and proper nutrition at an early age. Look at the obese asian baby above. This is a crime to do that to such a young child! Are we that complacent as a society to wallow in poor health and do nothing about it? The day when our government actually starts to control the major corporations that are polluting our society will be a great day……… when will that day be?

Childhood obesity is associated with various health-related consequences. Obese children and adolescents may experience immediate health consequences and may be at risk for weight-related health problems in adulthood.

Psychosocial Risks

Some consequences of childhood and adolescent obesity are psychosocial. Obese children and adolescents are targets of early and systematic social discrimination.39 The psychological stress of social stigmatization can cause low self-esteem which, in turn, can hinder academic and social functioning, and persist into adulthood.40

Cardiovascular Disease Risks

Obese children and teens have been found to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), including high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and abnormal glucose tolerance.39 In a population-based sample of 5- to 17-year-olds, 70% of obese children had at least one CVD risk factor while 39% of obese children had two or more CVD risk factors.2

Additional Health Risks

Less common health conditions associated with increased weight include asthma, hepatic steatosis, sleep apnea and Type 2 diabetes.

RICO’S COMMENTS:

Parents, you OWE it to your kids to teach them healthy eating habits early on in life. Kids today left on their own will most certainly fall into the marketing trap of commercials, ads and magazines, pushing fast food, soda, cigarette smoking, pizza, burgers, etc. You are their role model. Give them the best possible chance in life to succeed and be healthy and disease-free. It starts with you. Don’t fail your children. Shut off the television and computer and make sure they get outside and get sunshine (Vitamin D) and exercise

Pre-diabetes is a serious medical condition that can be treated. The good news is that the recently completed Diabetes Prevention Program study conclusively showed that people with pre-diabetes can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. They may even be able to return their blood glucose levels to the normal range.

While the DPP also showed that some medications may delay the development of diabetes, diet and exercise worked better. Just 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity, coupled with a 5-10% reduction in body weight, produced a 58% reduction in diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association is developing materials that will help people understand their risks for pre-diabetes and what they can do to halt the progression to diabetes and even to, “turn back the clock.” In the meantime, ADA has a wealth of resources for people with diabetes or at risk for diabetes that can be of use to people interested in pre-diabetes.

Proper nutrition and exercise will solve the problem rather than masking the symptoms. The more drugs you are taking, obviously the unhealthier you are. Nourish your body and solve your health problems for good.

Resveratrol is a natural compound that is a rich source of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant, that also activates sirtuin, a family of proteins associated with cellular longevity. In that studies on lab animals show that orally delivered resveratrol exerts potent anti-diabetic effects, Giorgio Ramadori, from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (USA), and colleagues explored the underlying mechanism of this benefit. The researchers found that resveratrol acts directly on certain proteins in the brain, thereby normalizing hyperglycemia and greatly improving hyperinsulinemia in diet-induced obese and diabetic mice, these effects being independent of changes in body weight, food intake, and circulating leptin levels. The team suggests that: “[O]ur results unveiled a previously unrecognized key role for the CNS in mediating the antidiabetic actions of resveratrol,” and hopes these findings will lead to new approaches for diabetes prevention in humans.

Say NO to Grains

Apart from maintaining social conventions in certain situations and obtaining cheap sugar calories, there is absolutely no reason to eat grains. Believe me – I’ve searched far and wide and asked everyone I can for just one good reason to eat cereal grains, but no one can do it. They may have answers, but they just aren’t good enough. For fun, though, let’s see take a look at some of the assertions:

There’s a reason grains are first and foremost on the list of foods to avoid when following the Primal Blueprint: they are completely and utterly pointless in the context of a healthy diet. In fact, if your average unhealthy person were to ask for the top three things to avoid in order to get healthy, I would tell them to stop smoking, to stop drinking their calories (as soda or juice), and to stop eating grains. Period. Full stop. They really are that bad.

I’ve mentioned this time and again, but the fundamental problem with grains is that they are a distinctly Neolithic food that the human animal has yet to adapt to consuming.

Some of us can digest dairy, and we’ve got the amylase enzyme present in our saliva to break down starches if need be, but we simply do not have the wiring necessary to mitigate the harmful effects of lectins, gluten, and phytate.

RICO’S COMMENTS:

Lectins, Gluten and and Phylates are all health problems and are found in grains. Remember grains are an invention. A non dairy, non grains diet will deliver many health benefits. It will take some getting used to as we as a culture are filled with the belief that cereals, rice, pasta, wheat, etc. are healthy.

Your body is your temple……you might want to start treating it like one! ie. would you put sugar in your gas tank? No, because it will harm your car…….what do you think you’re doing every time you eat sugary, refined foods?????

OUR COMMENTS:

Proper nutrition and exercise will solve the problem rather than masking the symptoms. The more drugs you are taking, obviously the unhealthier you are. Nourish your body and solve your health problems for good.
