The truth is that it is next to impossible to get even the minimal RDA amounts of the limited number of vitamins and minerals on the RDA list, much less the amounts of all the many nutrients needed for optimal health from diet alone.</p>
<p>Decades of over-farming has left the world’s top soils severely depleted of essential minerals. For the most part, the only minerals replaced have been those needed for optimal growth and not vital minerals such as magnesium, which are needed for optimal health.</p>
<p>Foods on our grocers’ shelves frequently have had <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>true nutrition processed out (and often harmful additives processed in to enhance shelf life, taste, color and texture)</strong></span>. In many instances most of the claimed nutrition comes from added synthetic petrochemical vitamins and crushed rock minerals – which are vastly inferior to natural vitamins and minerals found in food.</p>
<p>This author has repeatedly challenged balanced-diet proponents to devise a weekly 2000 to 2500 calorie a day diet plan which provides all of just the measly nutrient amounts on the limited RDA chart. Thus far no one has come close. Keep in mind that in many instances RDA amounts of vitamins and minerals are merely the theoretical amounts needed to prevent deficiency-related illness. Besides the fact that <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>RDA amounts are often far below the optimal amounts</strong></span>, the RDA list does not include literally hundreds of other valuable nutrients which we have evolved and adapted to utilize.</p>
<p>If it is so easy to get all the nutrition needed from diet alone, why is it that up to <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>95% of us are deficient in magnesium</strong></span>? For that matter, why is it that most of us are deficient in other vital nutrients as well &#8211; even those of us who regularly eat a so-called balanced diet?</p>
<p>Another related myth is the idea that doctors are good sources of information and advice about diet and nutrition. In most instances, <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>mainstream doctors are woefully deficient in information about diet and nutrition</strong></span>. Doctors are taught in medical schools whose primary funding source is the pharmaceutical industry and whose curriculum is controlled by the AMA. Not surprisingly, <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>doctors are taught that the way to treat illness is to prescribe drug company medications</strong></span> and to perform mainstream medical treatments. What they are not taught is the vital role that diet and proper nutrition play in our health.</p>
<p>One longtime doctor turned naturopath told this author that in his entire mainstream medical education he had but one single lecture on diet and nutrition. Other doctors, including more recent graduates, confirmed that their educational experience was much the same when it came to diet and nutrition.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of my main mentors, Dr. Mercola (www.mercola.com) listed his basic diet plan last week. Here it is:</p>
<ul>
<li>Limit fructose to less than 25 grams per day. Ideally, you&#8217;ll also want to limit the amount of fructose from fruit to 15 grams per day, as you&#8217;re likely consuming &#8216;hidden&#8217; fructose if you eat even small amounts of processed foods or sweetened beverages</li>
<li>Limit or eliminate all processed foods</li>
<li>Eliminate all gluten, and highly allergenic foods from your diet</li>
<li>Eat organic foods whenever possible, preferably locally-grown</li>
<li>Eat at least one-third of your food uncooked (raw), or as much as you can manage</li>
<li>Increase the amount of fresh vegetables in your diet</li>
<li>Avoid artificial sweeteners of all kinds</li>
<li>Swap all trans fats (vegetable oils, margarine etc) for healthful fats like raw butter or coconut oil</li>
<li>To re-balance your omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, take a high-quality omega-3 supplement, such as krill oil, and reduce your consumption of processed omega-6 fats from vegetable oils (trans fats)</li>
<li>Drink plenty of pure water</li>
<li>Optimize your vitamin D levels, either through appropriate sun exposure, a safe tanning bed, or as last resort an oral vitamin D3 supplement</li>
</ul>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">RICO&#8217;S COMMENTS: Everything he says is very sound advice and I follow every one of these. I don&#8217;t eat much fruit because even too much of the fruit&#8217;s natural sugar is bad for you.I eat all of my organic vegetables raw as they lose most of their phytonutrients when cooked. I make super organic veggie/fruit smoothies in my VITAMIX. I only eat grass fed beef and organioc chicken and Alaskan Wild Salmon. I use Xylitol for a non toxic sweetener as opposed to SUCRALOSE, which is found as a sweetener in about 90% of most sugar free products, which kills most of the good gut bacteria in your stomach, resulting in many health problems. I use virgin organic coconut oil for cooking, skin moisturizer and take 3 tbsp a day for healthy fat and MCT (energy). I take krill oil and flaxseed oil also. I drink ionized alkaline water from the machine in my home, fresh every day. (Don&#8217;t get me going on bottled water!) I take 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3 every day as well as tan for 10 minutes a day ( the greatest producer of Vitamin D) in my safe tanning bed. </span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Many of the things Dr. Mercola lists are the same concepts in the Paleoithic Diet, which I follow. I take a strong Digestive Enzyme with every meal, Probiotics every day and a super Green Food</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">The last part even though it is not Diet related to both of our regimens is EXERCISE! THE MANY BENEFITS OF HAVING A FIT, LEAN, MUSCULAR BODY ARE WELL PUBLISHED.</span></strong></p>

<p>Studies have shown that children&#8217;s risk of injury from strength training is no greater than that from other types of exercise or sports, and <strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">the potential benefits of such training, such as increased bone density and decreased body fat, generally outweigh any risks.</span></strong></p>
<p>These findings line up with the most recent, updated exercise recommendations from the <a href="http://www.nsca-lift.org/">National Strength and Conditioning Association</a> (NSCA), which now recommends children, <strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">aged 6 and older, to incorporate strength training two to three times a week.</span></strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19620931">As of last year, the position of the NSCA is</a> that a properly designed, supervised and age appropriate resistance training program for youths can:</p>

<li>increase a young athlete&#8217;s resistance to sports-related injuries</li>

<p>Please note that it&#8217;s ESSENTIAL to make sure your child is under professional supervision when using free weights or resistance-training machines, to make sure each exercise is performed safely.</p>
